Henrietta Dubrey
Henrietta Dubrey was born in 1966 in Sussex , England , and grew up at the foot of the Sussex downs. Her repeated visits to Cornwall throughout her childhood made a profound impression upon her and initiated her desire to become a painter . In 1984 she began a one-year foundation course at the West Sussex College of Art and Design moving on to a further year at Byam Shaw of Art in London . In 1986 she commeneced a three year degree course at Wimbledon School of Art , where she studied painting under Bernard Cohen , John Mitchell , Michael Porter , Richard Layzell and Peter Fuller . She gained a place at the Royal Academy School in 1989 under Norman Adams (Keeper of Schools) and particularly remembers the discipline of life drawing under Norman Blamey and momorable tutorias wit hPrunella Clough , Ben Levene , Leonardo McComb , Jane Joseph and Timothy Hyman . In 1991 she Married Gavin Hicks and upon completion of her studies moved to Brighton to live and work . Their first daughter , Indigo was born in 1993 and two year later they mover to Normandy, France . Their son , Remi was born in 1996 and second daughter , Freya in 1998 , both in France . The following year they returned to England and lived in St Ives for six months , before settling in St Just , West Penwith , Cornwall , where she worked from a studio at home . Since 2003 Henrietta has been working from a studio in Penzance.
