''PAINTINGS & PROJECTS''
Following the earlier and highly successful visual biography by
the acclaimed photographer Dr. Philip Stokes, and the
limited edition 'The Mary Notebook', White Lane Press is proud
to announce this latest publication that defines the painter's
life and work.
''Paintings & Projects'' is a stunning new monograph which
provides a definitive overview of the artist's life and career.
The official book launch at the Somerville Gallery on Friday
24th November includes, amongst others, a number of original
painting featured in the book.
This new text, by author and gallerist
Francis Mallett, surveys the reasoning behind the artist's
method of painting large-scale 'Projects' on themes such as Vagrancy, Jealousy, Self-Portrait,
Old Age and Death. The ideas underpinning
the artist's thinking about the nature of human relationships
and the impetus for his book collecting are fully explored.
Eighty colour plates, many showing paintings never published
before, show the full breadth and development of his extraordinary
range and skill as a painter. The book also features the dramatic
colour photograpy of Derek Harris, which captures the impressive
surroundings of the artist's studio and private library.
This large-format hardback volume contains
192 pages and is lavishly illustrated with more than
120 photographs. A specially bound Collectors Edition is
also available, but is strictly limited to 350 copies. Bound
in a distinctive silver-coloured cover, with slipcase,
it includes a photograph of Robert Lenkiewicz in his Barbican
studio, printed and signed by the photographer.
